Funkified in Papua New Guinea

A few weeks ago, Funkified was approached with the opportunity to provide entertainment for one of the biggest charity events of the year in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Naturally we were extremely honored to be a part of such an initiative and super excited to get to work on our very first gig ABROAD!
The brief called for a 12-piece orchestra to support multi-platinum operatic pop-group Il Divo (Yep, Il Divo!!), so we quickly locked down the talented crowd from The Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra, pianist Ambre Hammond and guitarist David De Vries.
The event was hosted at The Lamana Hotel’s famous Gold Club by the Sir Theophilus Foundation Inc., to raise money for the Port Moresby General Hospital. The concert itself was stunning, featuring a vivid lighting scheme and set exclusively designed by the Lamana’s general manager Yiannis Nicolaou; to enhance and compliment Il Divo’s dynamic renditions of My Heart Will Go On, Con Te Partiro and more. Of course, everything was offset by the group’s trademark charisma and friendly banter – their onstage presence is truly something to behold! These guys haven’t sold over 26 million albums for nothing!

The gig was a resounding success with over $4 million raised, and it was truly humbling to have worked on such a wonderful event. Several of the musicians from Sydney Camerata were approached by both guests and hotel staff afterwards, thanking them for their beautiful and moving performance – we were actually told several times that with live orchestral concerts being fairly uncommon in Papua New Guinea, they were elated to have had the opportunity to see one of such high calibre. This was particularly special to hear!
On that note, we’d like to extend a huge thanks to The Lamana Hotel, The Sir Theophilus Foundation and Il Divo for including us in this amazing opportunity. It was certainly something we’ll never forget! Closer to home, a special thank you to the musicians of the Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra, Ambre and Dave for your mind-blowing talent and consistently friendly and professional demeanour. You guys are always a pleasure to work with and you really did us proud on this one! Looking forward to more collaborations together and hopefully with Il Divo in the future 🙂

Happy Birthday Funkified!

Funkified Entertainment has just turned 5!
Naturally we chose to celebrate with cake, champagne and cider.

Without getting too sentimental, it’s been a pretty incredible journey.

We started out in a tiny space in Leichhardt with barely enough room for two desks (case in point, Alley and Rob were actually sharing the one for a while there). Fortunately however, two years ago we graduated to our current and beloved digs in Beaconsfield; complete with a performance area, sunny balcony and city views. We’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best muso’s in the country and we’ve welcomed some exciting new acts to the books – most recently twentysomethings, whose front woman Tash Rindfleish has just returned from touring with Elizabeth Rose at Canadian Music Week (to rave reviews of course!).
This June will see our first international gig, for the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea; featuring the wonderful Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra backing Il Divo. To summarise, big things have been happening all round!

On that note, we’d like to say a special thank you to everyone who helped to bring us to where we are today. To all of our amazing suppliers, clients, muso’s, family and friends – from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much for your support, for your assistance, for everything. You’ll never know how much it truly means to us.
Much love from the team at Funkified Entertainment.
